How to Play

Monster Rush Tower Defense is a HTML game where the goal is to defend possessions by obstructing the monster attackers, placing defensive towers along the path to automatically block and destroy monsters. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

  • Starting the Game
    • Click on the start button. This will bring up the menu select screen.
    • The first level is immediately available. You have to beat each level sequentially to unlock each of the 13 levels.
      • If you have played the game before, your game progress data is saved in your local web browser.
      • In the upper right corner of the welcome screen there is a button to turn sounds on or off, and to adjust the screen size to full screen.
      • Game Controls
        • Click on a tower position to bring up the menu for what types of towers you can build there.
        • Build towers to defeat the waves of enemies.
        • Some towers can only be built and not upgraded while other towers can be upgraded.
        • At the start of each level you are given a set amount of funding to build your initial set of towers. As you defeat enemies you earn more.
        • Dying
          • If many monsters make it past your defense and to the other side of the level the game is over. Each level has a different limit, which is typically around 5 (and is represented by the heart containers in the upper left corner of the screen). On level 10 you get 20.
            • You can restart the level again or start any unlocked level from the level select screen.
            • Each individual tower has a tower meter which shows its health. If you upgrade an upgradeable tower just before it dies then it starts at the next level with full health.
            • Strategy
              • Early on in the game monsters come in discrete waves which are shown in the upper left corner of the screen.
                • Waves with discrete ends allow you to repair/upgrade existing towers and build new towers in between them.
                • The wave verbiage is used throughout the remainder of the game, though the waves eventually become a constant stream, making it much harder to determine where to focus your efforts and attention as the action does not let up.
                • This game starts out easy but the difficulty level increases dramatically.
                  • For example, off the start there are only 5 waves of attacks from a single enemy type on a single path with a single type of tower.
                  • By the time you get to level 8 monsters come from 3 different directions and there are 30 waves of attacks from 5 different types of enemies and you have 5 tower types to choose from. The difficulty level of the game increases geometrically.
                  • On level 10 you are given a ton of money to spend right at the start of the level, but the enemies come so quick it is hard to see what is going on. Instead of it seeming like there is x waves of enemies it is just one constant blur.
                  • Where to place towers
                    • If enemies only come from a single direction it is best to place towers toward the beginning of the level so you have a greater period of time to attack enemies for & you can place additional towers further in the level if some get past your initial defenses.
                    • If enemies come from 2 different directions, it makes sense to lay your early towers in the middle of the board where they can hit enemies coming down either path.
                    • If the board wraps around a tower to where it can attack enemies for an extended period of time that is a great place to lay a tower.
                    • Which towers to place
                      • As you progress through the game you unlock more tower options.
                      • Generally it makes sense to lay the strongest towers you can afford.
                      • In some cases it can make sense to place an arrow tower where a level wraps around the tower and the tower is a bit back from the playing field, so the tower is less likely to be reached by enemy fire and can fire on enemies for an extended period of time.
                      • When to place towers
                        • Some weaker towers die quickly on higher levels, meaning you should employ one of the following strategies
                          • Place weaker towers in placements where they are further from the battle field and are unlikely to be attacked by monsters.
                          • Place the weaker towers toward the end of the board after the enemies have already been thinned out by your initial defenses.
                          • Place weaker towers directly behind stronger towers.
                          • Outright avoid using the weaker towers.
                          • If you use weaker towers and place them where they are frequently hit then keep an eye on their health and upgrade them across levels just before they are about to be destroyed to replenish their health. This process can be distracting, hence why it is best to place them in placements further from the monster path and/or near the end of the level.
