How to Play

Play China Temple Mahjong online for free. China Temple Mahjong is a timed 2-mode Mahjong Solitaire Game. Clear the stack as fast as you can in time trial mode, playing through 100 different board configurations one at a time. Remove the stack before the timer expires and earn as many points as you can in Levels mode, playing a select of 10 random levels from the 100 board options. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

  • Starting the Game
    • On the welcome screen, select Play to begin.
    • Choose Level Select to play a different version of the game.
    • Select Help to learn the game’s rules.
    • Select High Scores to view the game’s leaderboard.
    • Select the gear button on the bottom right corner to open the following controls:
      • Use the speaker and music buttons to turn the game’s sound on and off.\
      • Use Reset to clear your game progress.
      • Use the drop-down list on the bottom left corner of the screen to choose the game’s language.
      • Your web browser automatically saves your game progress.

        • Desktop
          • With your mouse, left click to select the stones.
          • Touchscreen devices
            • Tap on the stones with your fingers to select them.
            • Controls and indicators
              • The game’s controls and indicators are located at the right side of the screen. From the top, they are as follows:
                • Enlarge button: Lets you switch between windowed and full-screen modes
                • Pause button
                • Speaker button: Turns the game’s audio effects on and off
                • Music button: Turns the game’s music on and off
                • Cumulative score
                • Level number
                • Remaining matches on the stack
                • Level timer
                • Shuffle button
                • Undo button
                • Hint button
                • The level selection screen has the following controls:
                  • The game’s levels are shown as icons on the center frame. This is divided into pages with 10 level icons each.
                  • On either side of the center frame are navigation buttons.
                    • Menu button: Takes you back to the welcome screen
                    • The page numbers
                    • Play button: Starts the game
                    • Game Play
                      • Basic rules
                        • Select 2 identical Mahjong stones to remove them from the stack.
                          • Season tiles (winter, spring, summer, and autumn) can be paired with one another without needing to match.
                          • Flowers can match any other flower tiles.
                          • All other matches must be identical.
                          • The game keeps track of the number of available pairs you can make.
                          • You can only pair free stones.
                            • Free stones have no stone above them and at least one side (left or right) without an adjacent stone.
                            • The game helpfully highlights the free stones. The non-free stones are grayed out
                              • Gameplay modes
                                • Levels
                                  • Levels are unlocked sequentially:
                                    • Finish one level to unlock the next.
                                    • You automatically proceed with the next level.
                                    • There are 10 levels in this game.
                                    • Level formats are decided at random.
                                      • Your starting arrangement will be different each time.
                                      • Clear the entire stack before the level’s timer expires.
                                        • In level mode start with 2 minutes and 3 seconds on the clock on the first level.
                                          • Later levels have a longer time limit and more stones.
                                          • You fail the level if you don’t clear all the stones in time.
                                            • You can opt to try the level again.
                                            • Otherwise, you can end your playthrough. This lets you save your score in the leaderboard.
                                            • Each time you reload the game, you have the following options:
                                              • You can continue where you last left off.
                                              • You can start a new playthrough. This will clear your previous score and progress.
                                              • Time trial
                                                • Choose a level from the level selection screen to start time trial mode.
                                                  • Here, you only need to clear the entire stack to finish the game.
                                                  • Your goal is to finish the level as fast as you can. The faster you finish, the higher your star rating.
                                                    • The timer counts up rather than down.
                                                      • The highest star rating you can get is 3 stars.
                                                        • Your web browser saves your best time and star rating.
                                                          • Your record is shown below the level’s icon on the selection screen.
                                                          • Your star rating for the level is shown on top of its icon.
                                                          • Although you earn points in this level, it doesn’t count toward your record on the level.
                                                          • There are 100 levels to play.
                                                            • Scoring
                                                              • Your score in Levels mode is cumulative. Your score carries over from one level to the next.
                                                              • You earn 100 points for every pair you clear.
                                                              • In addition, you get a bonus 30 points for every second left on the timer after you finish.
                                                              • Assistance
                                                                • The game provides you with an unlimited number of the following means of assistance:
                                                                  • Hint: Shows you any valid pair of tiles on the stack
                                                                  • Undo: Removes your last action
                                                                  • Shuffle: Rearrange the stones on the stack
                                                                  • Each of these options cost points. Use them only when you need to.
                                                                    • Hints cost 300 points.
                                                                    • Manual shuffles cost 500 points.
                                                                    • Undos cost 100 points.
                                                                    • In time trial mode, using these options adds 5 seconds to your time.
                                                                    • The game automatically shuffles the stack if you ever run out of valid pairs. This has no point penalty.
                                                                    • Target Audience
                                                                      • The game is suited for players who like Chinese cultural history or Mahjong Solitaire tile match games.
                                                                      • The game has no adult themed content.
